A CAREER IN THE MEDIA CAN HAVE ITS TRICKY MOMENTS

I was working as an extra for a drug and alcohol rehab training video titled
"Ending Offending" several years ago.

The film crew had privately booked a saloon bar in a hotel for the main scene
which I was in. But the previous scene, shot in the hotel's drive-through bottleshop,
had a slight hiccup in the middle of filming. In this scene, the bottlo was
being held up, the robber wanting drug money. As we were filming the armed robber
holding up the bottlo, a police patrol happened to be driving past and saw the
masked person pointing a firearm at the staff member behind the counter. The
police came screaming into the driveway, coming in from the exit direction,
thinking they were on the ball, catching a criminal red handed, only to just
about run the cameraman over, along with most of the other film crew who were
out of sight from the road, getting the "right angle" for the shot. Apart from
that little mishap, all continued to go well for the rest of the scenes.

A filmstar's life is not all roses.

Come to think of it, neither is a policeman's.

AUDIENCE (H)EAR

Collecting data to improve Cairns FM, keeping it alive and sparkling, is challenging,
hard work (sometimes I'm reeling), but satisfying after all. Being a cheeky
presenter, I usually carry a notebook, to record ideas that pop up all of a
sudden. Especially when I know I will be amongst lots of people. This is useful
reference for future parties or programs to be organized. I often hear interesting
opinions from all directions, most of them encouraging.

"Now this is Community!" This remark, spoken by one of our faithful listeners.
A wonderful time of sharing and getting to know each other. From a presenter's
point of view: now I know whom I am speaking to. It makes our task so much easier,
more personal, more intimate. And the audience could connect the voice to the
face. Call us to say hello. Chat to us. Keep in touch!
